The Collected Jokes Starring Rajinikanth might have made for one of Indian publishing’s biggest hits, had it not been for the fact that many of those jokes were originally about Chuck Norris. The superstar’s daughter will probably steer clear of jokes though in her forthcoming memoir titled Standing on An Apple Box, with the coy subtitle The story of a girl among the stars.

Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth Dhanush is admittedly in a difficult place. Sandwiched as she is in the male star dominated Tamil movie industry between her megadad and her husband Dhanush, Aishwaryaa is turning to the written word (her official biography does mention she is a “voracious reader”). But the very fact that her memoir will be published on December 12 – Rajinikanth’s birthday – makes it clear where publishers HarperCollins are placing their bets.

There are rumours that the anecdote-rich book is inspirational. That’s a bit alarming. Can’t we have something like Jennifer Grant’s lovely memoir of her father Cary Grant?
